Smithburg ligger i South Melbourne Market och serverar en vild men trevlig mix av burgare, lobster rolls och pannkakor. Trots att det fanns många skyltar om just deras hummer valde vi att beställa två olika burgare; Double Cheeseburger med dubbelt kött, ost, sallad, tomat, lök, pickles och husets specialsås för 20 AUD (125 kronor) och en Double The Smithburg med dubbelt kött, ost, tjock lönnsiraps- och pepparbacon, stekt ägg, dillpickles, lök och pepparrotsmajonnäs för 25 AUD (160 kronor).

Det första vi tänkte på med båda burgarna var att dubbla köttpuckar puck var ett måste för att få rätt proportioner. Brödet var ordentligt rostat och smakade riktigt gott. Det gräsuppfödda köttet var mört och smakade utmärkt, men här hade vi gärna haft en lite krispigare crust. Vi önskade även att de vågat vågat peppra mer, särskilt på cheeseburgaren som var ganska tam i smaken. En person i vårt sällskap ville inte ha sallad eller tomat på cheeseburgaren, men på grund av en språkförbistring så togs den bort från alla våra burgare. Vi hade dock föredragit det, då det hade varit trevligt med lite fräschör. Men det är inget vi klandar restaurangen för, såklart. Picklesen var riktigt dillig och bidrog med mycket smak, medan hamburgerdressingen var god men något platt. The Smithburg var den bättre burgaren av de två, tydligt inspirerad av Au Cheval med en riktigt pepprig ton på baconet och ett smakrikt, krämigt ägg. Baconet var också lättuggat trots sin tjocklek, precis som det ska vara. Båda burgarna var dock lite väl mjuka. En glad överraskning var att pommes frites ingick gratis på tisdagar, vilket var den dagen vi var där. De var krispiga men hade behövt mer salt.

Smithburg serverar goda burgare i en härlig miljö, och vi kommer mer än gärna tillbaka för att utforska resten av menyn, inklusive hummer och pannkakor.

Smithburg is located in South Melbourne Market and serves a wild but delightful mix of burgers, lobster rolls and pancakes. Despite the many signs advertising their lobster, we opted for two different burgers: the Double Cheeseburger with two beef patties, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles and their house special sauce for 20 AUD (14 USD) and the Double The Smithburg with two beef patties, cheese, thick maple syrup and pepper bacon, a fried egg, dill pickles, onion and horseradish mayonnaise for 25 AUD (17.5 USD).

The first thing we noticed about our burgers was that opting for double patties was the correct choice, ratio wise. The bun was nicely toasted and tasted great, and the tender grass-fed beef had an excellent flavour. But a bit more crust wouldn’t have hurt. We also wished they had dared to use more pepper, especially on the cheeseburger which was a bit anonymous. One person in our group didn’t want lettuce or tomato on the cheeseburger, and due to a language barrier it was removed from all our burgers. We would have preferred some vegetables here, as it would have added a nice freshness. But that’s not something we blame the restaurant for, of course. The pickles had a deep dill flavour that we enjoyed, but their house sauce was a decent but not very inspiring. The Smithburg was the better burger of the two, clearly inspired by Au Cheval with a really peppery tone on the bacon and a tasty, creamy egg. The bacon was also easy to chew despite its thickness, just as it should be. Both burgers were a bit too soft, however. A pleasant surprise was that fries were included for free on Tuesdays, which was the day we were there. They were crispy but needed more salt.

Smithburg serve great burgers in a lovely environment, and we will more than happy to return to explore the rest of the menu, including their lobster and pancake options.

The Blique by Nobis hotel is located at Torsplan near S:t Eriksplan in Stockholm, and houses the three restaurants Arc Rooftop, Origo and Boketto. When we tested the burger at Boketto at the end of 2022, we got a burger that didn’t quite live up to our expectations, but after several reports that the burgers had improved, we went back for a second visit. The menu had one burger; the Blique Cheeseburger with a 130-gram beef patty, double burger cheese, chopped white onions, pickles, mustard and mayo. It cost 245 SEK (26 USD) including a generous portion of fries.

The burger was served in a lage brioche bun and contained a pretty thick patty with a nice crust and was a bit pink in the middle. It was well-seasoned and really tasty, but the meat flavors would have really benefited from a slightly larger patty. The well-melted cheese added both creaminess and flavor. The bun was nicely toasted on the inside and was sturdy, but it would have handled the mayo in the heel and the mustard in the crown even better if it had been toasted more. We really liked that they had compensated for the crunchy pickles’ sweetness by skipping ketchup in favor of just American yellow mustard, and the the flavor profile was really well-balanced with a lot of acidity. The white  onions also added flavor, and the only thing we missed here was that it should have been chopped a bit thicker for texture. The fries were very filling, but would have benefited from being fried a bit more so that they were more golden yellow. We liked that they came with both ketchup and a slightly mustardy mayo as well.

The Blique by Nobis burger was much better this time. If you’re staying at the hotel, the burger is an easy choice to have in their nice restaurant, but they are also worth checking out for non-guests in the Torsplan area.
