In English

Burger Point is a burger chain with nine locations in Sydney and one in Newcastle on Australia’s east coast. They say they try to add a Filipino twist to the familiar flavours of burgers, and on the menu we found five different burgers – as well as their viral purple ube milkshakes. We ordered a Big Boss with double patties, cheese, maple syrup bacon, pickles and BP sauce for 22 AUD (SEK 14.5 USD) and the BP Signature Purple Dulce milkshake for 8 AUD (5.5 USD).

The burger we got lived up to its name and was really big. The bacon hung far outside the bun, and a small skewer tried to hold everything together as best it could. After a few bites, we could tell that the meat was tasty and even a little pink in the middle. Unfortunately, the bun was completely untoasted, and combined with the skewer creating a hole through the entire burger, this led to the entire heel being soggy. The bun itself was good, but since it was completely untoasted, and the skewer had created a channel that caused the entire heel to become completely soaked with meat juices. Of the three burgers we ordered, only one was served with melted cheese, and the difference in quality was noticeable. The bacon was flavourful, but we would have appreciated it if it had been crispy throughout, as the whole burger was far too soft overall. The pickle offered a welcome change in texture, but even though it had a lovely crunch, it was too sweet for the flavour profile. And even though the milkshake looked really good, it was overly sweet and lacked the interesting ube flavour we were hoping for.

Unfortunately, Burger Point made some significant mistakes that cost them points. However, the fried chicken that a group next to us was eating looked both crispy and juicy, so we’ll probably try that next time.

🍔 Review № 1381

Black Bear Burger is one of the veterans of the modern burger wave in England, and we have tried their burgers several times since our first review in 2017. Over the years, Black Bear Burger has received more and more attention and hype, both domestically and internationally, and today they are one of the most well-known burger restaurants in all of England. They have locations at nearly 10 places around London, and we visited their restaurant inside the Market Halls Victoria food hall and ordered their Double Miso Bacon Burger – the same burger that won them the National Burger of the Year 2025 award. The burger contained double patties, double cheese, smoked bacon and their miso butter mayo, and it cost 15.8 GBP (21 USD).

The burger looked exactly as we remembered it, with pre-formed patties and a pale bun covered in a generous layer of sesame seeds. The bun was soft and fluffy, but just like on our previous visits, we felt that the crust-like amount of sesame seeds took over both in terms of flavour and texture. The meat was of high quality as always and had a nice and potent dry-aged character that they are known for. The meat could have been juicier though, as it felt a bit too compact this time. The bacon was super tasty and crispy, just the way we like it, and the onion also contributed a nice texture. Their miso butter mayo was very flavourful with its buttery, salty, and umami-rich taste, but together with the bacon and the beef, the overall flavour profile was a bit too salty. We would have liked to see some kind of freshness to break up the saltiness for a more complete experience.

We are very happy that a veteran like Black Bear Burger continues to deliver high-quality burgers year after year, and they are still a safe bet when you are craving a really good burger in London.
