In English

BBQ Shop is a small meat shop and restaurant located in the exclusive Leblon neighbourhood of Rio de Janeiro. The restaurant is small, with a few tables and seats, and like the venue, their menu is tight and concise. We ordered their Esquina BBQ burger with cheddar, onions, pickles, mustard and ketchup for BRL 59 (9.5 USD).

Our burger came served cut in half, on a black porcelain plate, and when we picked it up, we were greeted by a thick patty made from coarsely ground beef, perfectly medium rare as per their recommendation. The bun struggled to handle the beef juices, but it didn’t do very well as it wasn’t toasted enough on the inside. The heel in particular got quite soggy, probably also because they’d cut the burger in half. But it was still soft and squishy, and we had no problem holding the burger in our hands. The juicy patty was incredibly delicious with a soft texture that melted in our mouths. A few more turns with the salt grinder would have elevated the flavours even more, but it was a minor complaint with the otherwise high-quality beef. We liked the balance of all the ingredients, and the classic flavours of a cheeseburger quickly made us happy. The mustard and pickles worked nicely together to break up the rich patty, creating a nice balance. The fries were nice but would have been even crispier and tastier if they had been left in the fryer a bit longer. Aside from that, the accompanying BBQ sauce was just as we wanted it – with more spicy heat than sweetness.

BBQ Shop deliver an unpretentious burger that does everything it promises, with very high quality meat and classic flavours. Plus, they’re close to the beach, making them a delicious spot for a meal before or after some beach time in one of the world’s most photogenic cities.

🍔 Review № 1381

Black Bear Burger is one of the veterans of the modern burger wave in England, and we have tried their burgers several times since our first review in 2017. Over the years, Black Bear Burger has received more and more attention and hype, both domestically and internationally, and today they are one of the most well-known burger restaurants in all of England. They have locations at nearly 10 places around London, and we visited their restaurant inside the Market Halls Victoria food hall and ordered their Double Miso Bacon Burger – the same burger that won them the National Burger of the Year 2025 award. The burger contained double patties, double cheese, smoked bacon and their miso butter mayo, and it cost 15.8 GBP (21 USD).

The burger looked exactly as we remembered it, with pre-formed patties and a pale bun covered in a generous layer of sesame seeds. The bun was soft and fluffy, but just like on our previous visits, we felt that the crust-like amount of sesame seeds took over both in terms of flavour and texture. The meat was of high quality as always and had a nice and potent dry-aged character that they are known for. The meat could have been juicier though, as it felt a bit too compact this time. The bacon was super tasty and crispy, just the way we like it, and the onion also contributed a nice texture. Their miso butter mayo was very flavourful with its buttery, salty, and umami-rich taste, but together with the bacon and the beef, the overall flavour profile was a bit too salty. We would have liked to see some kind of freshness to break up the saltiness for a more complete experience.

We are very happy that a veteran like Black Bear Burger continues to deliver high-quality burgers year after year, and they are still a safe bet when you are craving a really good burger in London.
