In English

The Malta Beef Club is an award-winning meat restaurant in the exclusive Leblon neighbourhood of Rio de Janeiro. Their menu focuses heavily on steaks and cuts of meat, but they also have four burgers, all of which are priced at BRL 60 (10 USD) each. We ordered a Malta Burguer with English cheddar, fried onions, pickles and BBQ sauce and a Burguer Sabor Doc with Emmental cheese, red onions, pickles and aioli.

Our burgers were served on porcelain plates, and looked quite substantial thanks to the thick 120-gram beef patties and the high brioche buns. The bun was a little stiff and they could have been a little more squishy, but it had been toasted well and held everything together during our meal. The patty, which was quite expectedly the star, was very juicy and excellently medium rare. The beef was also properly salted which we appreciated as this is not always the case when eating burgers in Brazil. Their Malta Burguer was our firm favourite with a nice balance between the patty and the slightly hot BBQ sauce, as well as the crispy texture of the fried onions. The pickle on both burgers contributed a nice acidity, but they would have added even more crunch if they were a little thicker. Their Sabor Doc burger in particular was in dire need of a little more of that texture. It felt a little too anonymous for its own good, and could have used a little more punch in the flavours. The fries were really tasty with a good crispiness and plenty of potato flavour that was really appreciated.

Malta Beef Club may be known for their meat, but we think they serve very good burgers at a surprisingly good price. They are well worth a visit next time you are in Leblon and want to have a hearty meal.

🍔 Review № 1397

🇺🇸 @localtide ★★★★☆

Local Tide is a hyped fish restaurant in central Seattle. And while most of the menu focuses on seafood, their burger has also become a bit of a talking point. They don’t take reservations, and when we arrived there were around 20 people queuing outside the small restaurant, with an hour-long wait. Luckily, there was space next door at Aslan Brewing, which served their burger and a handful of other dishes from Local Tide. We ordered their Smash Burger with beef, cheese, caramelised onions and mayo in a brioche bun for 10 USD, as well as a portion of Salt and Pepper Fries for 8 USD. We also tried their Salmon Sando for 16 USD.

After waiting around an hour for our food, our burger arrived neatly presented on a small plate. The bun looked a little flat but was lighter and fluffier than we’d expected. The beef was incredibly juicy and well salted, while the cheese was both creamy and flavourful. The caramelised onions were packed with umami and really enhanced the flavour of the beef. Both the bun and beef had a decent crust, although both could’ve been cooked a little more. Our main critique was that the burger would’ve been even better with a few more crispy components, and perhaps a bit bigger. The fries were like potato wedges and were incredibly well cooked. The generous portion was crispy and well seasoned, and their homemade ketchup was really tasty. The 16 USD salmon burger also impressed us with its fresh salmon fillet, great textures and fresh flavours.

It’s great to see a seafood restaurant serving burgers as good as the ones at Local Tide. The other seafood dishes are of course also worth trying, but make sure to arrive early and be prepared to wait a while for your food.
