In English

Babble is located right on the seafront in Brighton and Hove, in a stylish Art Deco building serving food and drinks. The menu features pizzas, salads and burgers, with plenty of outdoor seating for anyone looking to enjoy the sea view. The burgers themselves were created by Sam Lambert, who is also behind Slam’s, which we tried at Burger Fest UK. We ordered their Double Slam Burger with two beef patties, American cheese, pickles, coleslaw and burger sauce. It came with fries and cost 19.5 GBP (26 USD).

The burger had a simple, homemade appearance. The two beef patties were juicy and well-seasoned, but the cheese had burnt onto the griddle, forming a hard, black crust around the entire beef. The pale, soft bun had been heavily toasted on the outside but barely at all on the inside, so the heel quickly became soggy and lost its structure, while the bun itself lacked any real bounce. The thinly sliced pickles had plenty of acidity, which we appreciated, and the fresh coleslaw added a pleasant flavour that worked well with the beef. Unfortunately, this wasn’t enough to save the meal. While the burger worked well on paper, the execution was a little too inconsistent and sloppy. The small portion of fries didn’t fare much better. They were served lukewarm, had a hard texture and almost seemed under-fried.

Perhaps the dip in quality was because the restaurant was completely full, but we expected more considering the high price. Babble does have a lovely seafront location, though, so we’d happily visit again. Next time, we’ll probably skip the food and have something to drink in the sun instead.

🍔 Review № 1393

🇸🇪 Mother of Wagon ★★★★☆

Mother of Wagon opened by Arboga’s train station in the summer of 2026, and is actually run by the mother of the owner of The Wagon Burgers & Brews in Stockholm. Besides the clever name, they also offered four burgers, all of which could be made vegetarian. We ordered a Cheeseburger with two 100-gram mustard-smashed beef patties, cheddar, onions, pickles, ketchup and dressing in a brioche bun. It cost 130 SEK (14 USD), and we also added fries for 30 SEK (3 USD).

The burger looked really good when it arrived, even if it had been assembled somewhat hastily with a lot of sauce. The flavours worked well, but all that sauce made it a little difficult to eat as the patties kept sliding around. The beef from a local farm in Örebro was generously seasoned and had plenty of flavour. However, it had been slightly overworked and was a bit too compact, and we would’ve preferred a more airy texture. The cheese had melted nicely over the patties, and we also appreciated that the fluffy bun had been nicely toasted on the inside, helping it hold together throughout the meal. We liked the finely chopped onions, while the pickles were crunchy, if slightly sweet. Although the mustard smash added plenty of flavour to the beef, we would’ve appreciated the acidity of American yellow mustard instead of the fairly sweet burger sauce. The fries came in a very generous portion and were thick and well-cooked, but slightly too heavily salted.

Mother of Wagon has managed to build a really solid foundation in just a few months, and the friendly staff also contributed to the experience. We’re really happy that it’s now possible to get a good burger in central Arboga.
