In English
Meat Stop originally hail from Essex, but by the end of 2025 they made the move to London and opened in the pub Commercial Tavern in Shoreditch. They are one of the most talked-about newcomers to London’s ever-growing burger scene, and we visited them when they were at Burger Fest UK 2026. There they served their Classic, with 160 grams of dry-aged beef from a farm in Essex, cheese, red onions, pickle relish and burger sauce in a brioche bun for 10 GBP (13.5 USD). The regular price in the restaurant is 12 GBP (16 USD).
The burger looked pretty good and smelled really nice. But despite the fact that the beef was tasty and well seasoned, it was a bit tough with a slightly chewy crust all around it. The patty wasn’t as juicy as we had hoped, and when we looked into their festival kitchen we saw that they had pre-cooked the beef and then just warmed it up with the cheese when the order came in. It was a strange choice that had a big impact on the experience. The freshly cooked feeling was missing and the texture of the meat was hard to ignore. Luckily, the toppings were really good and did a lot to improve the overall result. The sauce was full of flavour, the onions were roughly chopped and added some crispy texture and the pickles had a well-balanced acidity. The bun was also soft and did its job without taking over.
We were a bit disappointed that Meat Stop didn’t live up to their full potential. When you’re at a burger festival it’s important to give the visitors an experience that is as close as possible to what they would get in the actual restaurant. We hope that they perform better in Shoreditch, and we’ll make sure to visit them at some point to find out. Then we’ll also be able to try their Original Nutta with peanut butter and chilli jam, which sounds really interesting as well.
