In English

Robert’s Western World is a well-known honky tonk bar in the centre of Broadway in Nashville. The space that houses Robert’s Western World has been everything from a guitar maker, liquor store, and clothing store before becoming a bar dedicated to country. They even call themselves Nashville’s home of country music. They are perhaps best known for their affordable Recession Special – a hearty fried bologna sandwich with fries, a Moon Pie for dessert and a cold beer for 6 USD. But of course, we had to take the opportunity to order their burger as well, and got a Cheeseburger with beef, cheese, lettuce, onion, tomato and pickles for 13 USD. The price also included a portion of fries, but we chose to upgrade to onion rings for another 4 USD.

The burger looked a bit flat and the meat unfortunately didn’t have a lot of crust. But it was tender, juicy and quite tasty. However, the crumbly bread was very pale and barely even toasted, and started to fall apart quite immediately. It was also quite doughy and became quite hard to eat. The vegetables were well tempered but lacked the crunch we were hoping for, and because they were so soft, they added no texture at all. The pickles were very good with a distinct dill flavour that stood out as the highlight of the meal. Otherwise, it was just too flavourless overall, and we would have liked to see a lot more seasoning. At least the fries were super crispy, and we also appreciated the distinct onion flavour of the crispy onion rings.

Robert’s Western World is one of the most famous honky tonk bars on the whole street, but if we come back it will be for their Recession Special. Because how can you turn down that unbeatable deal? We suggest you go for that one too.

🍔 Review № 1381

Black Bear Burger is one of the veterans of the modern burger wave in England, and we have tried their burgers several times since our first review in 2017. Over the years, Black Bear Burger has received more and more attention and hype, both domestically and internationally, and today they are one of the most well-known burger restaurants in all of England. They have locations at nearly 10 places around London, and we visited their restaurant inside the Market Halls Victoria food hall and ordered their Double Miso Bacon Burger – the same burger that won them the National Burger of the Year 2025 award. The burger contained double patties, double cheese, smoked bacon and their miso butter mayo, and it cost 15.8 GBP (21 USD).

The burger looked exactly as we remembered it, with pre-formed patties and a pale bun covered in a generous layer of sesame seeds. The bun was soft and fluffy, but just like on our previous visits, we felt that the crust-like amount of sesame seeds took over both in terms of flavour and texture. The meat was of high quality as always and had a nice and potent dry-aged character that they are known for. The meat could have been juicier though, as it felt a bit too compact this time. The bacon was super tasty and crispy, just the way we like it, and the onion also contributed a nice texture. Their miso butter mayo was very flavourful with its buttery, salty, and umami-rich taste, but together with the bacon and the beef, the overall flavour profile was a bit too salty. We would have liked to see some kind of freshness to break up the saltiness for a more complete experience.

We are very happy that a veteran like Black Bear Burger continues to deliver high-quality burgers year after year, and they are still a safe bet when you are craving a really good burger in London.
