Mobster Diner

And all that jazz

Mobster Diner

Mobster Diner öppnade i Paris femte arrondissement redan 2012.

In English

Mobster Diner opened in Paris’ 5:th Arrondissement back in 2012. Both the restaurant itself and their imagery is inspired by the 1920’s, jazz and the prohibition era, and we weren’t really certain about what this had to do with burgers. But never the less, during our visit they offered a handful of different 180-gram beef burger costing between 13 and 15 EUR (13.5-15.5 USD), and we ordered their Smash burger with two beef patties, double cheddar, lettuce, tomato, red onions, pickles and their house sauce for 14 EUR (14.5 USD). French fries and a soft drink were included in the price.

Our meal arrived quickly on a small tray, and the burger looked pretty good. The brioche bun had been toasted, and had a soft, fluffy and buttery taste, with a pleasing mouth-feel. However, in stark contrast to this stood the beef patty, which was compact and a bit too under seasoned to really stand on its own. The cheese was both creamy and tasty, and the classic burger sauce worked well with the crisp vegetables and the tart pickle. Towards the end of our meal we felt that there was a bit too much bun compared to the other ingredients, and that a third beef patty would have worked great. The french fries were quite boring, but at least there were condiments on the table which we used to mix a dipping sauce that made them a bit more interesting.

Mobster Diner serve a decent burger at a decent price. If you’re hungry for a hamburger in the Latin Quarters then they’re worth a visit, but there are many other places that are better in the French capital.

🍔 Review № 1381

Black Bear Burger is one of the veterans of the modern burger wave in England, and we have tried their burgers several times since our first review in 2017. Over the years, Black Bear Burger has received more and more attention and hype, both domestically and internationally, and today they are one of the most well-known burger restaurants in all of England. They have locations at nearly 10 places around London, and we visited their restaurant inside the Market Halls Victoria food hall and ordered their Double Miso Bacon Burger – the same burger that won them the National Burger of the Year 2025 award. The burger contained double patties, double cheese, smoked bacon and their miso butter mayo, and it cost 15.8 GBP (21 USD).

The burger looked exactly as we remembered it, with pre-formed patties and a pale bun covered in a generous layer of sesame seeds. The bun was soft and fluffy, but just like on our previous visits, we felt that the crust-like amount of sesame seeds took over both in terms of flavour and texture. The meat was of high quality as always and had a nice and potent dry-aged character that they are known for. The meat could have been juicier though, as it felt a bit too compact this time. The bacon was super tasty and crispy, just the way we like it, and the onion also contributed a nice texture. Their miso butter mayo was very flavourful with its buttery, salty, and umami-rich taste, but together with the bacon and the beef, the overall flavour profile was a bit too salty. We would have liked to see some kind of freshness to break up the saltiness for a more complete experience.

We are very happy that a veteran like Black Bear Burger continues to deliver high-quality burgers year after year, and they are still a safe bet when you are craving a really good burger in London.
