In English

Festin opened their first restaurant in Barcelona’s cosy Born district in early 2021, and have recently expanded to the more rowdy Raval. We visited them during the final of The Champions Burger, where they served their festival burger Cuchillera with two smashed beef patties, double American cheese, whiskey-marinated bacon bits, white onions and a burger sauce in a potato bun. The price was 12.5 EUR (13.5 USD).

We got a really nice and well-proportioned burger, very similar to what we usually see in Sweden. The super soft potato bun had a much lower profile than the brioche buns that usually dominate in Spain, and both the meat and cheese looked really inviting. The first bite revealed that this was a well made smash burger, and we particularly liked the juicy and buttery potato bun. The meat also offered plenty of flavour, and we liked that it was still a little pink inside. A deeper crust would have been nice though. At least the texture was helped by the really crispy bacon and white onions, and we also appreciated the creamy burger cheese and the rather flavourful burger sauce. A little more acidity would not have hurt, and we would have liked to see some pickles or something else to create some flavour variation. But overall, we were very satisfied.

Festin serve really modern smash burgers that remind us a lot of what is available in Sweden, so if you are in Spain and are looking for something a little more familiar, you should definitely check them out. It’s up to you to decide if you want to eat your burger in a relaxed neighbourhood or in Barcelona’s party district.

🍔 Review № 1397

🇺🇸 @localtide ★★★★☆

Local Tide is a hyped fish restaurant in central Seattle. And while most of the menu focuses on seafood, their burger has also become a bit of a talking point. They don’t take reservations, and when we arrived there were around 20 people queuing outside the small restaurant, with an hour-long wait. Luckily, there was space next door at Aslan Brewing, which served their burger and a handful of other dishes from Local Tide. We ordered their Smash Burger with beef, cheese, caramelised onions and mayo in a brioche bun for 10 USD, as well as a portion of Salt and Pepper Fries for 8 USD. We also tried their Salmon Sando for 16 USD.

After waiting around an hour for our food, our burger arrived neatly presented on a small plate. The bun looked a little flat but was lighter and fluffier than we’d expected. The beef was incredibly juicy and well salted, while the cheese was both creamy and flavourful. The caramelised onions were packed with umami and really enhanced the flavour of the beef. Both the bun and beef had a decent crust, although both could’ve been cooked a little more. Our main critique was that the burger would’ve been even better with a few more crispy components, and perhaps a bit bigger. The fries were like potato wedges and were incredibly well cooked. The generous portion was crispy and well seasoned, and their homemade ketchup was really tasty. The 16 USD salmon burger also impressed us with its fresh salmon fillet, great textures and fresh flavours.

It’s great to see a seafood restaurant serving burgers as good as the ones at Local Tide. The other seafood dishes are of course also worth trying, but make sure to arrive early and be prepared to wait a while for your food.
