In English

Kalk Gourmetburgare & Nöje – or just Kalk – is an incredibly charming restaurant in Löttorp, not far from the northernmost tip of Öland. They opened in 2009, and craft burgers have been on their menu since day one. Nowadays, they also serve a wide variety of other dishes, often locally sourced and seasonal, but the burgers still have their rightful place on the menu. We ordered three of their six beef burgers: the Classic with Västerbottensost cheese and bacon for 240 SEK (24.5 USD), the Hot Ass Hell with Västerbottensost cheese, bacon, pickled chili and hot sauce for 260 SEK (26.5 USD), and the Massa Lök Extra Ost with taleggio, caramelised yellow onions, pickled red onion, fermented garlic and fried shallots for 260 SEK. All burgers contained lettuce, tomato, red onions, pickles and mayo, and came with freshly fried potato chips.

The meat was served medium, as recommended by the kitchen. The thick beef patty also contained smoked chili, which felt a little old-fashioned. The burgers themselves looked like the craft burgers of former times, with a rustic, homemade sourdough bun pierced with a skewer. The pale bun was super soft and very tasty, and the large patties were beautifully pink in the middle of two of our burgers and a little more well done in the third. The meat flavour was quite subtle, but still juicy and tasty, even if the chili took up a little too much space. It worked better in the chili burger, which was pleasantly spicy. We also liked the flavourful, crispy bacon, and most of the ingredients worked well together. We prefer French fries, but the potato chips were flavourful and crispy.

Kalk has many other appealing items on their menu as well. The burgers are still a solid choice with their vintage feel, and even though the prices are a bit high we would gladly visit them again for both the atmosphere and the service. And to check out the rest of their menu, of course.

🍔 Review № 1381

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 @black_bear_burger ★★★★☆

Black Bear Burger is one of the veterans of the modern burger wave in England, and we have tried their burgers several times since our first review in 2017. Over the years, Black Bear Burger has received more and more attention and hype, both domestically and internationally, and today they are one of the most well-known burger restaurants in all of England. They have locations at nearly 10 places around London, and we visited their restaurant inside the Market Halls Victoria food hall and ordered their Double Miso Bacon Burger – the same burger that won them the National Burger of the Year 2025 award. The burger contained double patties, double cheese, smoked bacon and their miso butter mayo, and it cost 15.8 GBP (21 USD).

The burger looked exactly as we remembered it, with pre-formed patties and a pale bun covered in a generous layer of sesame seeds. The bun was soft and fluffy, but just like on our previous visits, we felt that the crust-like amount of sesame seeds took over both in terms of flavour and texture. The meat was of high quality as always and had a nice and potent dry-aged character that they are known for. The meat could have been juicier though, as it felt a bit too compact this time. The bacon was super tasty and crispy, just the way we like it, and the onion also contributed a nice texture. Their miso butter mayo was very flavourful with its buttery, salty, and umami-rich taste, but together with the bacon and the beef, the overall flavour profile was a bit too salty. We would have liked to see some kind of freshness to break up the saltiness for a more complete experience.

We are very happy that a veteran like Black Bear Burger continues to deliver high-quality burgers year after year, and they are still a safe bet when you are craving a really good burger in London.
