Burger 3000 started out as a pop-up and street food stand in California in 2024, and became so popular that just six months later they opened their first restaurant in Chatsworth. Today they have three locations, two of which are in Hollywood. The space theme runs through the entire concept, and they joke that they will open the first restaurant on the Moon as early as 2029. Behind the playful setting is a more serious burger concept serving smashburgers made with 100 percent Australian halal Wagyu. The menu featured five beef burgers, one chicken burger and a vegan option, and we ordered a Double Wagyu with American cheese, pickles and secret sauce in a Hawaiian bun for 13 USD. We also added their much talked-about Raspberry Bacon Jam for 3 USD.
Our burger arrived quickly and certainly had a distinctive appearance, with heavily smashed beef and lacy edges stretching far beyond the bun. Our first few bites consisted almost entirely of beef and sauce, but the proportions improved considerably as we worked our way towards the middle. The beef had developed a delicious crust and had a pleasant flavour, but it lacked some of the juiciness promised on the menu and could have done with more salt and pepper. The Hawaiian bun had been thoroughly toasted on the inside and was soft and fluffy. Its distinct sweetness complemented the flavours nicely, so it would have been better if it had covered more of the beef. The cheese was beautifully melted and gave the burger some much-needed creaminess. Their secret sauce was fairly mild, but there was plenty of acidity from the generous amount of pickles. The Raspberry Bacon Jam sounded exciting on paper, but the balance didn’t quite work. The raspberry flavour took over almost completely, while the bacon faded into the background.
Burger 3000 is still a fun addition to Hollywood’s burger scene, with a well-executed concept and a perfectly decent smashburger. If you’re looking for a super-smashed stunt burger in an unusual setting, they’re worth checking out.
