Den omtyckta barbecuerestaurangen Hometown Bar-B-Que är en av dessa, och nu har de även öppnat syskonkrogen Red Hook Tavern, som har tagit inspiration från den klassiska amerikanska cornerbistron. På menyn fanns endast en burgare och ett handfull andra rätter. Burgaren kostade saftiga 28 USD (295 kronor) och var ganska spartanskt uppbyggd med en tjock köttpuck gjord på hängmörat kött med ost och lök i ett sesambröd, tillsammans med en pickle och några potatisklyftor vid sidan av.
Burgaren vi fick in var en riktig skönhet, och smakerna satt precis där de skulle. Den stora och saftiga köttpucken kött var mör och stekt till perfekt medium rare, vilket gjorde den till en riktig smaksensation. Den krämiga osten hade en ljuvlig smak, och omfamnade hela måltiden med en värmande kram. Och det fluffiga brödet hade stekts lätt på insidan för att mäkta den tjocka pucken. Löken kompletterade smakbilden med en trevlig krispighet, och trots att det var så få ingredienser så var proportionerna perfekta och vi saknade faktiskt ingenting. Deras egeninlagda pickle var frisk och potatisklyftorna var välfriterade – även om vi gärna hade sett några fler på tallriken.
Red Hook Tavern har verkligen lyckats skapa en utmärkt amerikansk bistroburgare. Vi föll pladask för den vackra miljön, den vänliga servicen och den fenomenala burgaren, och detta är ett givet besök nästa gång du befinner dig i Brooklyn.

Red Hook is a new and hip area in Brooklyn, New York. Here you’ll find modern housing mixed in with industrial areas, which has led to loads of new restaurants and bars opening up in the area. The acclaimed BBQ joint Hometown Bar-B-Que is one of these, and now they’ve also opened Red Hook Tavern, which has been inspired by the classic American corner bistro. Their menu includes several dishes, including one burger costing a hefty 28 USD. With just a few simple ingredients, this bistro burger contained a thick dry-aged beef patty, with cheese and onions in a sesame bun, served with a pickle and a few potato wedges on the side.
Our burger was a real beauty, and it was packed with flavours. The thick and juicy beef patty had been cooked to a perfect medium rare, making it burst with flavours. The cheese tasted amazing and was super creamy, enveloping the meal with a warming hug. And the fluffy bun had been heated gently on the inside to help it handle the thick patty. The onions completed the meal with their crispiness, and even though there weren’t very many ingredients we were impressed by the proportions and we didn’t really miss anything. Their pickle was refreshing and the potato wedges were excellently fried, even though we wouldn’t have complained if there’d been a few more on our plate.
Red Hook Tavern have really succeeded in creating a superb American bistro burger. We were enamoured with the beautiful environment, their friendly service and the phenomenal burger, and you should definitely pay them a visit the next time you’re in Brooklyn.
