AMBOY Quality Meats and Delicious Burgers är en relativt nytt litet hål i väggen i Chinatown, Los Angeles. Restaurangen startades av burgarprofilen Alvin Cailan, känd som programledare för First We Feasts YouTube-succé The Burger Show.

AMBOY Quality Meats and Delicious Burgers serverar numera Los Angeles bästa burgare.

In English

AMBOY Quality Meats and Delicious Burgers is a relatively new little hole in the wall in Chinatown, Los Angeles. The restaurant was started by burger pro Alvin Cailan, known as the host of First We Feast’s YouTube hit The Burger Show. Their menu was short and concise, but still required some guidance from the cheerful guy behind the counter. All the burgers were available in three different versions; Classic with two thinly smashed patties, Slim Thicc with a medium-sized 8 oz (150 gram) patty or a DH with a 10oz (285 grams) dry-aged beef patty. During our visit they offered three different burgers, and we ordered their Amboy Burger as both a Classic and a DH. In addition to the meat, they contained ”new school American cheese”, caramelised onions, pickles and some burger sauce in a sesame bun, and cost 10/21 USD respectively. We also ordered Garlic Fries and Amboy Fries for 9 USD each.

The burgers arrived from the kitchen shortly afterwards and smelled amazing. The bun was covered with sesame seeds, but they were still very soft and had a nice bounce, holding everything together nicely. The thinly smashed beef patties in our Classic tasted better than they looked, but paled a little in comparison to the incredible beefiness and perfect texture from the dry-aged beef. There were a lot of meat juices towards the end of our meal that soaked the bun, but it thankfully held together until the very end. The combination of all ingredients and proportions was perfectly balanced. Our Garlic Fries had a lot of garlic flavour without being overpowering and kept their crispness. Our Amboy Fries with meat, onion, cheese, chilli and dressing got a bit soggy though.

We left Amboy QMDB incredibly satisfied that Alvin had lived up to our very high expectations. This is our new favourite burger in Los Angeles.

🇸🇪 @thellas_foodtruck ★★★★☆

Thellas is a food truck in Gävle that we’ve heard a lot of positive things about since they opened in 2024. The menu at the time of our visit consisted of four beef burgers and a vegetarian option. We chose the classic ”Thellas Cheese” cheeseburger with double burger cheese, silver onions, dill pickles, ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise. A single patty burger cost 115 SEK (12.5 USD), but we ordered a double 120-gram patty burger with for 145 SEK (15.5 USD) and also added 30 SEK (3 USD) for french fries and 15 SEK (1.5 USD) for a chili mayo.

There was a long line of people waiting for their food, and when the burger was served we were greeted by a well-composed and inviting cheeseburger. The first bite was incredibly flavourful and juicy, with a very clear crust on the patties. The beef was well-seasoned with a generous amount of coarsely ground black pepper. And the creamy cheese was delicious and nicely melted over the beef. Unfortunately, the bun was a bit of a disappointment, because despite looking good, it had been toasted for too long on the grill and lacked the fluffy texture we expect from a brioche bun. Their own-pickled cucumber was delicious and added both acidity and crunch, and we would have liked to see more of it so that it was spread over the entire burger. All the sauces did their job without standing out and were also in the right amount, without any one of them overpowering the others. We also liked the generous portion of crispy french fries, and the smoky chilli mayo was tasty – although it could have been a bit spicier.

Thellas undoubtedly serve one of the better burgers we’ve eaten in Gävle, and the service from the guys in the food truck was excellent as well. We definitely recommend keeping an eye on their schedule and visiting them if you’re in the area.
