Sabor Doc

In English

Sabor Doc is an award-winning steakhouse located in Leblon – one of Rio de Janeiro’s most exclusive neighbourhoods – and has been awarded the best burger in the city by several publications. Their menu was filled with meat dishes, two of which were burgers. We ordered their house burger Burguer Sabor Doc with a 180-gram beef patty. queijo prato cheese, red onions, pickles and aioli for 48 BRL (10 USD).

The burger was huge to say the least, and some of the ingredients started to fall out of the burger almost immediately when we grabbed it. The bread was exemplary soft and airy, but hadn’t been toasted at all on the inside, which was an unnecessary mistake. The super juicy meat was with its pink centre was undoubtedly the highlight, but we would have liked more salt and pepper to enhance the meat flavour. After a few bites, the juicy patty had made the untoasted bottom bun really soggy as well. The red onions and pickles fulfilled their tasks gallantly by adding a nice crunchy texture to everything, as well as some much needed acidity that balanced out the fatty beef. The classic Brazilian cheese queijo prato tasted nice, but its melting properties left a lot to be desired. Instead of adding a creaminess, it became chewy texture which didn’t work that well in a burger.

Sabor Doc serve a pretty good burger, but considering that all their meat cuts looked amazing, a steak is definitely the safer choice here.

🍔 Review № 1381

Black Bear Burger is one of the veterans of the modern burger wave in England, and we have tried their burgers several times since our first review in 2017. Over the years, Black Bear Burger has received more and more attention and hype, both domestically and internationally, and today they are one of the most well-known burger restaurants in all of England. They have locations at nearly 10 places around London, and we visited their restaurant inside the Market Halls Victoria food hall and ordered their Double Miso Bacon Burger – the same burger that won them the National Burger of the Year 2025 award. The burger contained double patties, double cheese, smoked bacon and their miso butter mayo, and it cost 15.8 GBP (21 USD).

The burger looked exactly as we remembered it, with pre-formed patties and a pale bun covered in a generous layer of sesame seeds. The bun was soft and fluffy, but just like on our previous visits, we felt that the crust-like amount of sesame seeds took over both in terms of flavour and texture. The meat was of high quality as always and had a nice and potent dry-aged character that they are known for. The meat could have been juicier though, as it felt a bit too compact this time. The bacon was super tasty and crispy, just the way we like it, and the onion also contributed a nice texture. Their miso butter mayo was very flavourful with its buttery, salty, and umami-rich taste, but together with the bacon and the beef, the overall flavour profile was a bit too salty. We would have liked to see some kind of freshness to break up the saltiness for a more complete experience.

We are very happy that a veteran like Black Bear Burger continues to deliver high-quality burgers year after year, and they are still a safe bet when you are craving a really good burger in London.
