Den lite enklare L.A.

That Burger Place serverar fortfarande riktigt goda burgare.

In English

When we visited That Burger Place in early 2022, we named them Manchester’s best burger. Since then, they have opened and closed several restaurants, and now they only have one location in Salford, outside Manchester. The small place serves as both a restaurant and a base for deliveries into the city. We visited the colourful establishment and ordered an L.A. Smash with double patties, burger cheese, white onions, pickles and burger sauce for 9 GBP (12 USD), a 3-Way with both double patties and fried chicken for 11 GBP (15 USD), and the Big Mac copycat Big Smash for 12 (16.5 USD). To go with this, we ordered their Pizza Fries with marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, chives, parmesan and hot honey for GBP 9 (12 USD).

That Burger Place has made some changes since our latest visit, the biggest of which was that they now smash the beef patties much harder for extra crust. Luckily, they were still crispy and hadn’t turned into meat chips, which can sometimes happen. However, we would have liked them to be a little juicier. The Big Smash was well balanced thanks to its four thinly smashed beef patties, and this was one of the best Big Mac tributes we’ve tried. The 3-Way was very juicy thanks to the tender, fried chicken. It had a lovely, sweet flavour that felt lively and different, although we would have preferred crispier bacon. The slightly simpler L.A. Smash was unfortunately the weakest burger, largely because it was a little dry. We appreciated their tangy and flavourful pickles, and loved the concept of Pizza Fries. The addition of hot honey was a stroke of genius, and we were impressed that the fries could handle being covered in so many ingredients.

That Burger Place still serves really nice burgers. We miss some of the finesse from our last visit, but they are still a very strong contender in Manchester.

Recension från 20 maj 2022

Recension skriven av Toby Lee

20 maj 2022, That Burger Place

That Burger Place have really made a name for themselves lately, including a final spot at the National Burger Awards 2022. This small mini chain has a couple of locations outside central Manchester (in Swinton and Walkden), and after having a look at their socials we just had to pay them a visit. The small diner in Swinton wasn’t super charming though, as the ventilation was shoddy resulting in greasy floor, menus and seating. So we hurried up and ordered two burgers; their award-winning New Yorker with two beef patties, American cheese, diced onions, lettuce, pickles, tomato, mustard, ketchup and their burger sauce for 8 GBP (10 USD), and their signature burger California Dreaming with two beef patties, American cheese, chopped bacon, diced onions, bacon mayo and a barbecue sauce for 9 GBP (11 USD).

Our burgers looked delicious when they arrived, and our first bite confirmed our high hopes. The meat had an excellent crust and was expertly seasoned. It was juicy and tasty, and we had no objections whatsoever. The burgers came in a sesame covered brioche bun that did its job without any problems, and the fresh vegetables really lifted the meal – especially the pickles on our New Yorker. That burger also had an amazing burger sauce with classic flavours, but tangy and not at all sweet. The bacon mayo on our California Dreaming was sweet and smoky without taking over, and just did its job by improving the flavours in the background. Their Kevin Bacon Fries for 6 GBP (7.5 USD) with cheese sauce, chopped bacon and bacon mayo tasted great, but were almost excessive and a bit too much for us.

There’s nothing we can do but to capitulate and applaud That Burger Place as the best burger joint in Manchester. It’s also worth noting that they mainly focus on deliveries, so we’re assuming that you could get equally good results by ordering a burger to central Manchester if necessary. But they’re still so good that it’s worth paying them a visit.

🍔 Review № 1381

Black Bear Burger is one of the veterans of the modern burger wave in England, and we have tried their burgers several times since our first review in 2017. Over the years, Black Bear Burger has received more and more attention and hype, both domestically and internationally, and today they are one of the most well-known burger restaurants in all of England. They have locations at nearly 10 places around London, and we visited their restaurant inside the Market Halls Victoria food hall and ordered their Double Miso Bacon Burger – the same burger that won them the National Burger of the Year 2025 award. The burger contained double patties, double cheese, smoked bacon and their miso butter mayo, and it cost 15.8 GBP (21 USD).

The burger looked exactly as we remembered it, with pre-formed patties and a pale bun covered in a generous layer of sesame seeds. The bun was soft and fluffy, but just like on our previous visits, we felt that the crust-like amount of sesame seeds took over both in terms of flavour and texture. The meat was of high quality as always and had a nice and potent dry-aged character that they are known for. The meat could have been juicier though, as it felt a bit too compact this time. The bacon was super tasty and crispy, just the way we like it, and the onion also contributed a nice texture. Their miso butter mayo was very flavourful with its buttery, salty, and umami-rich taste, but together with the bacon and the beef, the overall flavour profile was a bit too salty. We would have liked to see some kind of freshness to break up the saltiness for a more complete experience.

We are very happy that a veteran like Black Bear Burger continues to deliver high-quality burgers year after year, and they are still a safe bet when you are craving a really good burger in London.
