Specimen Burger

Specimen Burger is the latest addition to the list of the most hyped burger spots in Paris. Like many other trendy burger places in the city, they have a stripped-down branding, a cool venue, an extremely sparse menu and loud music playing from the speakers. Their menu consists of only two burgers; one with meat and one vegetarian burger. We chose the meat version, Le Double Cheese Burger, which included two smashed 70 gram beef patties, four slices of cheddar, iceberg lettuce, onions and their own dressing for 13 EUR (14 USD), and added 5.5 EUR (6 USD) for a menu with fries and a drink.

Our burger came wrapped in paper, but still looked surprisingly neat. As is usually the case in France, the patties were smashed very hard and could best be described as meat chips. The meat flavour was generally good, and there was a large amount of seasoning that enhanced the beefiness. However, the texture was far too crunchy and almost a bit chewy, and it would have tasted a lot better if there was at least a little juiciness left. The bun was vanishingly light and super fluffy, creating an interesting contrast in texture to the meat. The four slices of cheese added a real creaminess to the burger, but it was almost too much of a good thing. The shredded iceberg lettuce gave everything some freshness and crunch, which was needed, but there was a bit too much of it. The sauce was nice with a refreshing acidity that made the overall flavours a little more exciting. The fries were well cooked and had a distinct potato flavour, and we appreciated their house seasoning and its strong cayenne pepper aftertaste. Unfortunately, they were a bit stingy with the seasoning, and we could have done with some more.

Specimen Burger serve a tasty and rather classic cheeseburger in a really cool packaging. if you find yourself in the 6th arrondissement and hunger strikes, they are definitely worth a visit.

Burger Devil is located in Bäckby on the outskirts of Västerås, and when we first visited them in 2023 after several recommendations, we were pleasantly surprised by the high quality. During our return visit, we noticed that the restaurant had a thoughtfully designed interior, with almost every little detail featuring their branding. This time, we ordered a Cheese with two 120-gram beef patties, cheddar, red onions, pickles, yellow mustard, ketchup and mayo, as well as a Habanero Cheese with the same amount of beef, cheddar, habanero cheese, white onions, fresh chilli and béarnaise sauce. Both double burgers cost 189 SEK (19 USD) each as meals, including fries and a soft drink.

The burgers were nicely presented in paper sleeves and well assembled, with a good patty to bun ratio – even though our Habanero Cheese was a bit overloaded with toppings. The buns held everything together well, with a soft exterior and a nicely toasted interior. The beef was heavily smashed with a nice crust and generous seasoning that gave it a rich and robust flavour. However, we would have liked more heat from the Habanero Cheese, especially considering its name. And while we appreciated the idea of adding béarnaise sauce, the flavours became somewhat monotonous towards the end, and we would have liked something fresh to break things up. The fried habanero and cheese balls added a really nice contrast in texture, though, and overall it was a very enjoyable burger. The cheeseburger was also good at its core, but the flavours were slightly too sweet. We would have really appreciated some tangy dill pickles here to create a better balance. The fries were well-fried and nicely salted, but the dips we ordered could have had a bit more flavour.

Burger Devil has a well-developed concept, and they continue to serve filling and well-made burgers at very reasonable prices. Despite a few minor flaws, that still goes a long way.

🍔 Burgerdudes Summer BBQ Burger
4 portioner / 30 min

Du behöver:
800 g grovmald högrevsfärs, 20–30 % fetthalt
4 hamburgerbröd, gärna briochebröd
8 skivor hamburgerost
Sweet Baby Ray’s Original Barbecue Sauce
4 salladsblad
4 tomatskivor
1 rödlök
1 dl ättiksprit, 12 %
2 dl strösocker
3 dl vatten Smör
Salt och grovmald svartpeppar

Gör så här:

We first visited N.O.A.H’s Burgare in Södertälje in 2024, and they’ve been high on our ranking of Sweden’s Best Burgers ever since. Their small white food truck has now been replaced by a much larger container, and the menu featured around ten burgers. We ordered our favourite, the Double Bacon Burger, with two 110-gram beef patties, cheddar, bacon, tomato, burger sauce and BBQ sauce for 138 SEK (14 USD). We also tried their SSK Meal, featuring a Bacon Jam Burger with a 135-gram beef patty, cheddar, bacon jam, pickles and Mac sauce. It cost 185 SEK (19 USD), including fries, a dip and a drink.

The burgers arrived quickly and looked just as inviting as we remembered. The Bacon Burger delivered crispy bacon and deep umami flavours, while the diced tomato worked surprisingly well with the other ingredients, adding both juiciness and a distinct texture. The Bacon Jam Burger had a pronounced sweetness and smokiness that we really enjoyed. The thicker beef patty had a crispy crust and a very juicy centre, and together with the generous amount of bacon jam, the proportions between the beef, toppings and bun were really good. However, the Mac sauce faded into the background and didn’t quite get a chance to shine. Both burgers were generously seasoned with salt and coarsely ground black pepper, and we particularly appreciated how they had adjusted the thickness of the patties to suit the toppings. The flavourful bacon jam worked perfectly with a thicker patty, while the classic Bacon Burger had better proportions with two thinner patties, each with an amazing crust. The fries were well-cooked and almost impossible to stop eating, and the included Mac dip paired really well with them.

N.O.A.H’s Burgare just keeps getting better with every visit, and they continue to impress from their small car park on the outskirts of Södertälje. If you love burgers, they’re definitely worth a detour.

🇺🇸 @familyfriend20671 ★★★★☆

Familyfriend is located in a residential neighbourhood in South Seattle and serves American comfort food and Guamanian fusion cuisine. They’ve been named the home of both Seattle’s best smashburger and corn soup, and the restaurant itself has a cosy interior with a large and airy courtyard. The menu consisted of small plates, medium plates and mains, and we ordered the only burger on the menu. The Da Kids Kewpie Burger came with beef, cheese, onions, pickles and miso and cost 20 USD, including a portion of Truffle Shoestring Fries. We also added an extra beef patty for another 5 USD.

The burger was served on a small plate and looked really cute. The beef was juicy with a crispy crust, but we would’ve appreciated more salt to make the flavours pop. The bun was nice and surprisingly airy, but should’ve been toasted harder on the inside. Ratio-wise, it worked really well with double beef, and we think a single would’ve been too bun-heavy. The diced onions were exceptionally crisp and flavourful without taking over, but they’d also diced the pickles, which made them feel more like relish. So even though the flavour was there, we missed their natural crunch, and the burger felt a little too soft overall. The flavours were simple but tasty, and we liked that they dared to keep the burger this simple. Their truffle fries were thinly cut and fried until crisp. Luckily, they’d only been lightly tossed in a fresh truffle oil, which added umami without taking over. We genuinely couldn’t stop eating them.

Familyfriend is a cosy little neighbourhood restaurant that’s well worth a visit. Come for the burger, but make sure to order several of the medium plates to share as well. We tried everything from tacos and empanadas to the burger and their corn soup – and the latter really did live up to its award.
