In English

Piri’s is located on an anonymous street in the Neukölln area, just south of central Berlin. Here they usually serve chicken burgers, Australian style, but on Saturdays they also smash beef burgers. So we had to try them, of course. The restaurant itself was pretty basic, but there were nice paintings on the walls and we got a great view of the kitchen. The staff was super friendly, and were happy to help us when we had problems deciding on what to order. During our visit they had four different burgers, and we selected two of them. A Smashin’ Sachin for 10.5 EUR (11 kronor), which was a rather classic burger with two beef patties, pickles, onions and a burger sauce, plus a Big Kahuna for 12 EUR (125 kronor) by recommendation from the chef, with two beef patties, cheese, bacon, caramelized onions, raw onions, fried pineapple, a tropical sauce and a spicy mayo.

Our burgers came served skewered with a wooden stick, and we could immediately see why. The hamburgers were filled to the brim with loads of ingredients, and the bun itself was sub-optimal for such a burger. And after just a few bites the bun started to fall to pieces, unable to contain the beef juices and various sauces. The patties were smashed super thin and had problems keeping together, and we also found some cartilage in the meat. But at least they were properly seasoned with pepper, which was very noticeable in the nicely balanced Smashin’ Sachin. Our Big Kahuna, however, contained far too many different spicey sauces, which took over. We did like that they make their own pickles and sauces though, and the quality in these was impressive.

We also got to try their deep-fried mushrooms, and the batter was golden brown and super crispy. Next time we visit we’ll probably stick to deep-fried dishes, as that’s clearly what they do best.

🍔 Review № 1393

🇸🇪 Mother of Wagon ★★★★☆

Mother of Wagon opened by Arboga’s train station in the summer of 2026, and is actually run by the mother of the owner of The Wagon Burgers & Brews in Stockholm. Besides the clever name, they also offered four burgers, all of which could be made vegetarian. We ordered a Cheeseburger with two 100-gram mustard-smashed beef patties, cheddar, onions, pickles, ketchup and dressing in a brioche bun. It cost 130 SEK (14 USD), and we also added fries for 30 SEK (3 USD).

The burger looked really good when it arrived, even if it had been assembled somewhat hastily with a lot of sauce. The flavours worked well, but all that sauce made it a little difficult to eat as the patties kept sliding around. The beef from a local farm in Örebro was generously seasoned and had plenty of flavour. However, it had been slightly overworked and was a bit too compact, and we would’ve preferred a more airy texture. The cheese had melted nicely over the patties, and we also appreciated that the fluffy bun had been nicely toasted on the inside, helping it hold together throughout the meal. We liked the finely chopped onions, while the pickles were crunchy, if slightly sweet. Although the mustard smash added plenty of flavour to the beef, we would’ve appreciated the acidity of American yellow mustard instead of the fairly sweet burger sauce. The fries came in a very generous portion and were thick and well-cooked, but slightly too heavily salted.

Mother of Wagon has managed to build a really solid foundation in just a few months, and the friendly staff also contributed to the experience. We’re really happy that it’s now possible to get a good burger in central Arboga.
