Diego’s Burgers

In English

Diego’s Burgers in Rotterdam are helmed by an award-winning chef at the helm. Diego Belly won the award for Rotterdam’s best burger in 2015 and set a record for the world’s most expensive burger in 2017. So when we were passing through Europe’s largest port city, we made sure to cross the ever-windy Erasmus Bridge and pay them a visit. Their menu featured three different beef burgers, and we were happy to see that they used dry-aged beef in them. We eventually settled on a Classic with dry-aged beef, bacon, cheddar, lettuce, tomato, pickles, ketchup and mustard in a brioche bun for 12.75 EUR (14 USD) and a Bulky with dry-aged beef, pulled pork, cheddar, miso, pickles and a BBQ whiskey sauce for 16.75 EUR (18 USD). We also added an extra patty to our Bulky for an additional 4 EUR (4.5 USD), as well as french fries with a mayo dip for 3.75 EUR (4 USD).

Our burgers were served on small plates and we immediately noticed that they were very tall. Both burgers had been pierced with a steak knife, and we kind of understood why when it came to the towering double burger. But it was far too high, and the pulled pork made it very difficult to eat. The bun was a delightful surprise; fluffy, soft and really tasty. The beef was good but didn’t taste particularly dry-aged, and could have done with more salt to elevate the flavours. It was also overworked and quite compact, which was very noticeable in our double burger. We rarely praise tomato in hamburgers, but all the vegetables in our Classic were nicely balanced, and the tomato slices were sliced thin and complemented the other ingredients well. The bacon was crispy, but the pickles were way too sweet and the fries were a boring let-down.

Diego’s Burgers probably serve the best burger in Rotterdam right now, but it’s not much better than just good. We hope to see some more development in the city in the future.

🍔 Review № 1381

Black Bear Burger is one of the veterans of the modern burger wave in England, and we have tried their burgers several times since our first review in 2017. Over the years, Black Bear Burger has received more and more attention and hype, both domestically and internationally, and today they are one of the most well-known burger restaurants in all of England. They have locations at nearly 10 places around London, and we visited their restaurant inside the Market Halls Victoria food hall and ordered their Double Miso Bacon Burger – the same burger that won them the National Burger of the Year 2025 award. The burger contained double patties, double cheese, smoked bacon and their miso butter mayo, and it cost 15.8 GBP (21 USD).

The burger looked exactly as we remembered it, with pre-formed patties and a pale bun covered in a generous layer of sesame seeds. The bun was soft and fluffy, but just like on our previous visits, we felt that the crust-like amount of sesame seeds took over both in terms of flavour and texture. The meat was of high quality as always and had a nice and potent dry-aged character that they are known for. The meat could have been juicier though, as it felt a bit too compact this time. The bacon was super tasty and crispy, just the way we like it, and the onion also contributed a nice texture. Their miso butter mayo was very flavourful with its buttery, salty, and umami-rich taste, but together with the bacon and the beef, the overall flavour profile was a bit too salty. We would have liked to see some kind of freshness to break up the saltiness for a more complete experience.

We are very happy that a veteran like Black Bear Burger continues to deliver high-quality burgers year after year, and they are still a safe bet when you are craving a really good burger in London.
