The Flying Elk bjuder in till Burger Bonanza 2017

  • The Double Mc B – Russiandressing, dill- och vitlökspicklad gurka, so mello-ost, hackad silverlök och glaserat bacon.

In English

The Flying Elk in Stockholm’s Old Town are arranging their third annual Burger Bonanza on Sunday, where they’ll be serving five different sliders (with 90 grams of meat) and one full-size vegetarian burger. We got to try them out, and were really impressed by the Umami Burger (both the veggie and meat versions), The Double Mc B (it tasted like a gourmet fast-food cheeseburger) and The Dirty Yankee (with yummy bacon and a tasty bbq sauce). The Frenchy burger had a few overpowering cheeses too many, and The Italian Job reminded us a bit too much of a toasted sandwich, but it’s obvious that they know their ingredients and how to handle them. If you’re in Stockholm this Sunday and have some money to spend, be sure to give them a visit – they’ll be having open drop-in seats all day.

🍔 Review № 1381

Black Bear Burger is one of the veterans of the modern burger wave in England, and we have tried their burgers several times since our first review in 2017. Over the years, Black Bear Burger has received more and more attention and hype, both domestically and internationally, and today they are one of the most well-known burger restaurants in all of England. They have locations at nearly 10 places around London, and we visited their restaurant inside the Market Halls Victoria food hall and ordered their Double Miso Bacon Burger – the same burger that won them the National Burger of the Year 2025 award. The burger contained double patties, double cheese, smoked bacon and their miso butter mayo, and it cost 15.8 GBP (21 USD).

The burger looked exactly as we remembered it, with pre-formed patties and a pale bun covered in a generous layer of sesame seeds. The bun was soft and fluffy, but just like on our previous visits, we felt that the crust-like amount of sesame seeds took over both in terms of flavour and texture. The meat was of high quality as always and had a nice and potent dry-aged character that they are known for. The meat could have been juicier though, as it felt a bit too compact this time. The bacon was super tasty and crispy, just the way we like it, and the onion also contributed a nice texture. Their miso butter mayo was very flavourful with its buttery, salty, and umami-rich taste, but together with the bacon and the beef, the overall flavour profile was a bit too salty. We would have liked to see some kind of freshness to break up the saltiness for a more complete experience.

We are very happy that a veteran like Black Bear Burger continues to deliver high-quality burgers year after year, and they are still a safe bet when you are craving a really good burger in London.
