In English

Ж Burger, or Ž Burger as it is pronounced, is a restaurant with two locations in Serbia’s capital Belgrade. We first tried their burgers during the 2024 edition of the Belgrade Burger Festival, and during our return visit to the city, we chose to visit their small restaurant in the Vračar area. We ordered three different burgers. First up was the cheese burger Čizburger with cheddar, red onion, Ж sauce and BBQ sauce. Then the spicy burger Ljuti, with cheddar, red onion, fresh habanero and two different hot sauces. And finally, the Pistać – the winning burger from the 2022 festival – with mozzarella, grilled mortadella, crushed pistachios, pistachio cream and Ж sauce. The beef patties weighed 125 grams each, and we chose to make all the burgers double and upgrade to 45-days dry aged beef. The prices were around 1,500 RSD (14 USD) for the first two burgers and 1,800 RSD (18 USD) for the pistachio burger.

We appreciated the dry aged meat, and its deep beefy notes really came through and were incredibly tasty. However, the patties weren’t as tender as we had hoped, and despite its pink centre, it was somewhat dense in texture. The butter-fried and fat-brushed brioche bun glistened beautifully, but also became somewhat sticky. The Čizburger had clean flavours, but we missed an acidic element such as mustard or pickles to better balance out the fattyness. Overall, it was somewhat anonymous. Ljuti had a well-balanced heat, but a little more texture would not have hurt. The pistachio burger was once again our favourite, impressing with its interesting flavour combinations that reminded us of gimmicky stunt burgers, while still being sensible enough to work. The fried mortadella went beautifully with the pistachios, and the combination of pistachio cream and crushed nuts added both creaminess and crunch. However, all their burgers were a little soft overall, although we have seen a clear and positive development since our first visit.

Ж Burger is keeping the torch high for Belgrade’s burger scene, and they still serve Serbia’s best burgers by far.

Ж Burger, or Ž Burger as it is also known, is a restaurant in Serbia’s capital Belgrade. The restaurant is actually a small hole in the wall that runs on the tried and tested concept of selling burgers every day until the ingredients sell out, but we managed to test their burgers when they participated in the Belgrade Burger Festival 2024. We ordered two different burgers. One was a double cheese and bacon burger called Čiz Slanina with two 125-gram beef patties, cheddar, bacon, caramelised onions, Ж sauce and BBQ sauce. The other was their 2022 festival winning burger, a double Pistać with two 125-gram beef patties, mozzarella, grilled mortadella, crushed pistachios, pistachio cream and their Ж sauce. We also upgraded our meat to 35-40 dry-aged beef patties and paid 1850 RSD (17 USD) and 2100 RSD (19 USD) respectively for our upgraded double burgers.

Our cheeseburger had a very distinct dry-aged flavour, which we really appreciated. The patties had a light pink centre with just the right amount of juicy tenderness under the crispy crust. The well-toasted bun also added a light crunch when we bit through it, but in contrast, the bacon would have been better cooked. Nevertheless, the proportions were well balanced, and we were happy with the choice of double patties. Neither the Ж sauce nor the BBQ sauce stood out, but they both contributed some nice creaminess. The pistachio burger was also impressive, with a rich pistachio cream and a distinct flavour from the fried mortadella. However, these flavours distracted from the dry-aged beef, and the end result was more like a delicious sandwich than a burger. We would have liked to see a bit more crunchy textures in both of our burgers, as they were rather soft, and the cheeseburger also lacked something acidic to cut through the flavours, such as pickles or a yellow mustard.

It is clear that Ж Burger is leading the way in Serbia’s burger scene, and their love for burger culture is evident. And we can confidently crown them as Serbia’s best burger restaurant right now.

🇦🇪 @she_burger ★★★★☆

She Burger is a restaurant chain with several locations in Dubai and around the Middle East, and they participated in the Dubai Burger Championship 2026. The burger they served at the festival was the same name as the restaurant, She Burger, and it consisted of two smashed beef patties, roasted onions, veal bacon jam with a lot of coffee, and their signature sauce for 60 AED (16.5 USD).

We immediately felt that the burger had a very international appearance when we saw it, and it offered a well-shaped brioche bun, plenty of toppings, double meat patties. The bun was soft and had a good size, but the heel would have been able to handle the beef juices better if they’d let the patties rest before assembly. The Black Angus meat had a strong meat flavour with a robust seasoning, but we felt that the crust should have been more pronounced and that the meat could have been even juicier. The fried onion was texturally brilliant, and it added both flavour and a lovely crunch that the burger really needed. The veal bacon jam was incredibly good and had a much more mature taste than we are normally used to. It was very coffee heavy, which we really appreciated. On the other hand, the signature sauce was completely anonymous and didn’t make any real impression.

She Burger do a lot right with this burger, but they need to refine the details and the meat to really make it a winner. But that being said, they offer one of the better burgers in Dubai.

🇸🇪 @thellas_foodtruck ★★★★☆

Thellas is a food truck in Gävle that we’ve heard a lot of positive things about since they opened in 2024. The menu at the time of our visit consisted of four beef burgers and a vegetarian option. We chose the classic ”Thellas Cheese” cheeseburger with double burger cheese, silver onions, dill pickles, ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise. A single patty burger cost 115 SEK (12.5 USD), but we ordered a double 120-gram patty burger with for 145 SEK (15.5 USD) and also added 30 SEK (3 USD) for french fries and 15 SEK (1.5 USD) for a chili mayo.

There was a long line of people waiting for their food, and when the burger was served we were greeted by a well-composed and inviting cheeseburger. The first bite was incredibly flavourful and juicy, with a very clear crust on the patties. The beef was well-seasoned with a generous amount of coarsely ground black pepper. And the creamy cheese was delicious and nicely melted over the beef. Unfortunately, the bun was a bit of a disappointment, because despite looking good, it had been toasted for too long on the grill and lacked the fluffy texture we expect from a brioche bun. Their own-pickled cucumber was delicious and added both acidity and crunch, and we would have liked to see more of it so that it was spread over the entire burger. All the sauces did their job without standing out and were also in the right amount, without any one of them overpowering the others. We also liked the generous portion of crispy french fries, and the smoky chilli mayo was tasty – although it could have been a bit spicier.

Thellas undoubtedly serve one of the better burgers we’ve eaten in Gävle, and the service from the guys in the food truck was excellent as well. We definitely recommend keeping an eye on their schedule and visiting them if you’re in the area.
