In English

El Tarantin Chiflado have been around since 2015 and now have a restaurant in Valencia where they focus on giving their guests a ”crazy experience”. We were not able to visit them there, but we came across their food truck at the burger festival The Champions Burger in Madrid where we could try their burgers without any gimmicks. During the festival they served their MOAB burger, which stood for ”The Mother of all Burger”. It contained 200 grams of beef that had been dry-aged for 35 days, melted cheese, a smoked cheese croquette and a dash of spicy barbecue sauce for 12 EUR (13 USD).

Compared to many other burgers we’ve had in Spain, we noticed right away that the meat didn’t have the really deep and beefy flavour we were hoping for. Especially considering that it was supposed to be dry-aged 35 days. It was crispy around the edges, which we liked, but we would have liked it to be looser in the middle. The brioche bun was soft and fluffy with a buttery flavour and the fried smoked cheese was good with a nice crispy exterior. After a few bites we noticed that it wasn’t newly fried, making it a bit tough and difficult to chew. The barbecue sauce was quite sweet with some exotic spices, which actually worked quite well.

El Tarantin Chiflado serve a barely passable burger, but with so many other five star places in Valencia, we were hoping for a little more finesse.

🍔 Review № 1381

Black Bear Burger is one of the veterans of the modern burger wave in England, and we have tried their burgers several times since our first review in 2017. Over the years, Black Bear Burger has received more and more attention and hype, both domestically and internationally, and today they are one of the most well-known burger restaurants in all of England. They have locations at nearly 10 places around London, and we visited their restaurant inside the Market Halls Victoria food hall and ordered their Double Miso Bacon Burger – the same burger that won them the National Burger of the Year 2025 award. The burger contained double patties, double cheese, smoked bacon and their miso butter mayo, and it cost 15.8 GBP (21 USD).

The burger looked exactly as we remembered it, with pre-formed patties and a pale bun covered in a generous layer of sesame seeds. The bun was soft and fluffy, but just like on our previous visits, we felt that the crust-like amount of sesame seeds took over both in terms of flavour and texture. The meat was of high quality as always and had a nice and potent dry-aged character that they are known for. The meat could have been juicier though, as it felt a bit too compact this time. The bacon was super tasty and crispy, just the way we like it, and the onion also contributed a nice texture. Their miso butter mayo was very flavourful with its buttery, salty, and umami-rich taste, but together with the bacon and the beef, the overall flavour profile was a bit too salty. We would have liked to see some kind of freshness to break up the saltiness for a more complete experience.

We are very happy that a veteran like Black Bear Burger continues to deliver high-quality burgers year after year, and they are still a safe bet when you are craving a really good burger in London.
