I priset ingick pommes frites.

In English

When N.E.O. opened more than 10 years ago, renowned chef Tommy Myllymäki was behind the venture. The restaurant is large, stylishly decorated and beautifully located by Lake Munksjön in the centre of Jönköping, and they also have a spacious outdoor terrace. During our visit, they offered two different meat burgers on the menu as well as a vegetarian variant, and we ordered a Neo:s Hamburgare with two smashed 100 gram beef patties, cheddar, caramelised onions, pickles and burger sauce for 215 SEK (20.5 USD). French fries were included in the price.

Our burger looked promising with fairly loosely smashed beef, an even layer of toppings and a nicely toasted bun. The patties had a tender and juicy texture, but were unfortunately too salty. The cheese added a nice creaminess that was enhanced by the almost equally creamy burger sauce, which also was quite sweet. The caramelised onion was rather mild in flavour, but we appreciated that it’s texture was similar to that of fried onions, as caramelised onions often tend to be mushy. The pickles were thinly sliced and mostly added a little more saltiness, which was not needed in this case. We would have liked more depth in the flavours, and some acidity somewhere, because now the salt became overpowering. Our skin-on fries had a nice potato flavour, but were slightly undercooked.

N.E.O. serve burgers with a distinctive style, and the quality and craftsmanship is evident. The high price-point is probably due to the great view from the restaurant, so it’s up to you to decide if it’s worth it.

🇸🇪 Mother of Wagon ★★★★☆

Mother of Wagon opened by Arboga’s train station in the summer of 2026, and is actually run by the mother of the owner of The Wagon Burgers & Brews in Stockholm. Besides the clever name, they also offered four burgers, all of which could be made vegetarian. We ordered a Cheeseburger with two 100-gram mustard-smashed beef patties, cheddar, onions, pickles, ketchup and dressing in a brioche bun. It cost 130 SEK (14 USD), and we also added fries for 30 SEK (3 USD).

The burger looked really good when it arrived, even if it had been assembled somewhat hastily with a lot of sauce. The flavours worked well, but all that sauce made it a little difficult to eat as the patties kept sliding around. The beef from a local farm in Örebro was generously seasoned and had plenty of flavour. However, it had been slightly overworked and was a bit too compact, and we would’ve preferred a more airy texture. The cheese had melted nicely over the patties, and we also appreciated that the fluffy bun had been nicely toasted on the inside, helping it hold together throughout the meal. We liked the finely chopped onions, while the pickles were crunchy, if slightly sweet. Although the mustard smash added plenty of flavour to the beef, we would’ve appreciated the acidity of American yellow mustard instead of the fairly sweet burger sauce. The fries came in a very generous portion and were thick and well-cooked, but slightly too heavily salted.

Mother of Wagon has managed to build a really solid foundation in just a few months, and the friendly staff also contributed to the experience. We’re really happy that it’s now possible to get a good burger in central Arboga.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 @hanbaagaasuuteeki ★★★★☆

Hanbaagaasuuteeki opened their burger restaurant near London Victoria in the summer of 2025. Since then, they have gone viral for their Asian-inspired burgers and their rather unique name, which is a play on ”hamburger steak”. The restaurant is stripped-back and consists mainly of counter seating, and the menu featured four different beef burgers. We ordered the Another Double Cheese Burger for 9 GBP (12 USD), the spicy Kimchi Burger for 11 GBP (15 USD) and the onion-smashed Thai Okla Bāgā 2.0 for 14 GBP (19 USD). We also tried their Sūpā Poteto, fries topped with wasabi and seaweed, for 8 GBP (11 USD).

Our food was served on small paper plates and everything looked really interesting. The beef had crispy edges while remaining juicy. The buns held together well, but hadn’t been toasted enough on the inside and became a bit too soft. The Kimchi Burger was our favourite, with lots of flavours that worked well together. The fresh acidity made the burger feel both balanced and surprisingly light. Their Thai burger was an Asian take on an Oklahoma Smash, with a noticeable but pleasant heat along with some nice nutty notes. However, the amount of lettuce made it a little difficult to bite through. The cheeseburger was overshadowed by its more adventurous siblings. It was a little too anonymous, and we disliked their overly sweet pickles. The wasabi and seaweed fries, on the other hand, were great! The portion was generous, the flavours were spot on and they were well worth the price. Extra points for serving them with chopsticks, an unexpected but practical touch that made it possible to eat the saucy creation without making a mess.

We definitely recommend a visit to Hanbaagaasuuteeki, especially for the more adventurous options on the menu. The wilder creations are the ones that steal the show here, so don’t be afraid to venture outside your comfort zone!
