Vox Hotel

I priset ingick även pommes frites.

In English

Vox Hotel is a design hotel located in the centre of Jönköping. As well as comfortable beds, they also have a restaurant that has a high reputation among the locals. The rather concise menu included a burger containing cheddar cream, pickled onions, caramelised onions and pickles for 255 SEK (20 USD). French fries were also included in the price.

Our burgers looked good overall, but on closer inspection we noticed some striking mistakes. One burger had thick and unevenly sliced pickles, while the other burger had much thinner pickles. The bun was cool on the outside of one of them, but ice cold on the other. The heavy toasting on the inside gave the bread a slightly bitter note, which funnily enough worked quite well with the sweet caramelised onions. The meat had a deep crust, but was still juicy, making it the clear highlight of the meal. But everything was too salty – especially on the burger with thick pickles. At least the fries were very good with a nice crispness, satisfying potato flavour and a pleasant saltiness.

Vox Hotel uses great ingredients, and the meat in particular was excellent. But despite the great potential, both the handling and the composition left much to be desired. It’s obviously very worrying when two burgers with identical ingredients look and feel as different as they actually did here, and with such a hefty price tag we’d expect them to maintain a consistent level of quality.

🍔 Review № 1381

Black Bear Burger is one of the veterans of the modern burger wave in England, and we have tried their burgers several times since our first review in 2017. Over the years, Black Bear Burger has received more and more attention and hype, both domestically and internationally, and today they are one of the most well-known burger restaurants in all of England. They have locations at nearly 10 places around London, and we visited their restaurant inside the Market Halls Victoria food hall and ordered their Double Miso Bacon Burger – the same burger that won them the National Burger of the Year 2025 award. The burger contained double patties, double cheese, smoked bacon and their miso butter mayo, and it cost 15.8 GBP (21 USD).

The burger looked exactly as we remembered it, with pre-formed patties and a pale bun covered in a generous layer of sesame seeds. The bun was soft and fluffy, but just like on our previous visits, we felt that the crust-like amount of sesame seeds took over both in terms of flavour and texture. The meat was of high quality as always and had a nice and potent dry-aged character that they are known for. The meat could have been juicier though, as it felt a bit too compact this time. The bacon was super tasty and crispy, just the way we like it, and the onion also contributed a nice texture. Their miso butter mayo was very flavourful with its buttery, salty, and umami-rich taste, but together with the bacon and the beef, the overall flavour profile was a bit too salty. We would have liked to see some kind of freshness to break up the saltiness for a more complete experience.

We are very happy that a veteran like Black Bear Burger continues to deliver high-quality burgers year after year, and they are still a safe bet when you are craving a really good burger in London.
