In English

Bourbon Burgers & Lounge opened in Karlskrona in the early 2000s, and they’ve been recommended to us for many years now. When we visited them they’d recently had a change of ownership, but since the tips said that the burgers were still the same, we entered the restaurant with great anticipation. We were greeted by a friendly but stressed staff, due to double bookings, but quickly got a table. We ordered a Jimi Hendrix with cheese and bacon and a Kurt Cobain with garlic fried mushrooms and a lingonberry compote. The burgers cost 179 SEK (17 USD) each, and we ordered both Bourbon Fries and regular fries for 29 SEK (3 USD) each.

The burgers arrived on a wooden tray, pierced by a sharp knife. We also noticed that both burgers contained salad and mayonnaise, even though this was not on the menu. The bread looked like a breakfast roll and was a little cold when we removed the knife and lifted the burger. The 200 gram beef patty was definitely the highlight of the meal, cooked to a perfect medium rare with an excellent crust. Its texture was tender, but we would have liked more seasoning to really elevate the beef flavour. The bun was the biggest culprit – dry, untoasted and with a flaky outer shell. It was also a centimetre wider than the meat, so we had to chew our way in to reach the ingredients. The bacon was nicely fried and wonderfully crispy, but the mayonnaise was unfortunately runny and bland. In our Kurt Cobain, we didn’t notice the garlic fried mushrooms much, but the lingonberries were nice without being overpowering. Our Bourbon Fries, which were sliced fried potatoes, and the regular fries were somewhat undercooked, but we liked the flavourful BBQ mayonnaise that was included.

We left Bourbon Burgers & Lounge quite disappointed that they made so many basic mistakes, despite the great meat. We’re guessing that this rock bar used to be better, as this really was sub-par.

🍔 Review № 1381

Black Bear Burger is one of the veterans of the modern burger wave in England, and we have tried their burgers several times since our first review in 2017. Over the years, Black Bear Burger has received more and more attention and hype, both domestically and internationally, and today they are one of the most well-known burger restaurants in all of England. They have locations at nearly 10 places around London, and we visited their restaurant inside the Market Halls Victoria food hall and ordered their Double Miso Bacon Burger – the same burger that won them the National Burger of the Year 2025 award. The burger contained double patties, double cheese, smoked bacon and their miso butter mayo, and it cost 15.8 GBP (21 USD).

The burger looked exactly as we remembered it, with pre-formed patties and a pale bun covered in a generous layer of sesame seeds. The bun was soft and fluffy, but just like on our previous visits, we felt that the crust-like amount of sesame seeds took over both in terms of flavour and texture. The meat was of high quality as always and had a nice and potent dry-aged character that they are known for. The meat could have been juicier though, as it felt a bit too compact this time. The bacon was super tasty and crispy, just the way we like it, and the onion also contributed a nice texture. Their miso butter mayo was very flavourful with its buttery, salty, and umami-rich taste, but together with the bacon and the beef, the overall flavour profile was a bit too salty. We would have liked to see some kind of freshness to break up the saltiness for a more complete experience.

We are very happy that a veteran like Black Bear Burger continues to deliver high-quality burgers year after year, and they are still a safe bet when you are craving a really good burger in London.
