Lilla Smashgrillen

In English

Lilla Smashgrillen is a newly opened food wagon just by Münchenbryggeriet on Söder Mälarstrand in Stockholm. Here they serve nine different burgers plus sausages and falafel, and we ordered their Las Vegas burger, containing beef, pepper jack cheese, bacon, lettuce, barbecue sauce and a chipotle sauce. During lunch service it cost 120 SEK (11.5 USD), including french fries and a soft drink.

Our burger arrived in a sturdy takeout box, and was really impressive with its classic street food looks. The high quality bun tasted nice, but had been toasted a bit too much making it a bit hard around the edges. The patties had a great crust and a beefy flavour, but we would have liked a bit more salt and pepper to make the flavours really pop. And even though the beef mostly had a nice and airy texture, some parts were chewy. We suspect that this was due to uneven meat grinding. The barbecue and chipotle sauces added a tasty sweetness that worked well with the savoury and crispy bacon, and the freshness from the lettuce helped lighten up our meal. Our french fries were covered in a grill seasoning which felt like a charming throwback, but since they were a bit undercooked they lacked the crispiness we were hoping for.

It’s clear that Lilla Smashgrillen is run by a young and hungry burger loving team. There are a few things that still need some polish, but if you’re hungry for a filling hamburger on Söder Mälarstrand you’ll find what you need here.

🍔 Review № 1381

Black Bear Burger is one of the veterans of the modern burger wave in England, and we have tried their burgers several times since our first review in 2017. Over the years, Black Bear Burger has received more and more attention and hype, both domestically and internationally, and today they are one of the most well-known burger restaurants in all of England. They have locations at nearly 10 places around London, and we visited their restaurant inside the Market Halls Victoria food hall and ordered their Double Miso Bacon Burger – the same burger that won them the National Burger of the Year 2025 award. The burger contained double patties, double cheese, smoked bacon and their miso butter mayo, and it cost 15.8 GBP (21 USD).

The burger looked exactly as we remembered it, with pre-formed patties and a pale bun covered in a generous layer of sesame seeds. The bun was soft and fluffy, but just like on our previous visits, we felt that the crust-like amount of sesame seeds took over both in terms of flavour and texture. The meat was of high quality as always and had a nice and potent dry-aged character that they are known for. The meat could have been juicier though, as it felt a bit too compact this time. The bacon was super tasty and crispy, just the way we like it, and the onion also contributed a nice texture. Their miso butter mayo was very flavourful with its buttery, salty, and umami-rich taste, but together with the bacon and the beef, the overall flavour profile was a bit too salty. We would have liked to see some kind of freshness to break up the saltiness for a more complete experience.

We are very happy that a veteran like Black Bear Burger continues to deliver high-quality burgers year after year, and they are still a safe bet when you are craving a really good burger in London.
