In English

The grill kiosk Prestogrillen is located on Lidingö, just to the northeast of central Stockholm, and is a real classic among the locals. It was first built back in the 1960’s and found itself in a conflict with a local count who considered french fries to be a stinky food for commoners. But the grill kiosk prevailed and the count moved. The original grill has now been replaced with a newer establishment nearby. Their long menu consists of loads of classic dishes, but we focused on their six burgers made from chuck beef that they grind themselves. They can also be found in Orminge and Vallentuna.

We ordered two burgers; a Double Cheese N Bacon with two 160-gram patties, cheese, bacon, onions, burger sauce and lettuce, and a single Triple Cheese with one 160-gram patty, a whopping six slices of cheese (edamer, pepperjack and cheddar) plus pickles, red onions, French dressing and lettuce. The meals cost 175 SEK (20.5 USD) and 135 SEK (16 USD), and included french fries and a soft drink.

Both of our burgers looked really massive, but we immediately saw that eating this meal would pose a bit of a challenge. Sure, the top bun was nicely toasted, and the bacon was excellently cooked, but the lettuce made everything glide apart and lose its shape. And the meat had released so many juices that the bottom bun was soggy before we’d even taken our first bite. The overly wet beef was also surprisingly finely ground, and hadn’t been seasoned enough with salt and pepper, making the meal a bit tasteless. And it’s not often we say this, but there was simply too much cheese on our Triple Cheese burger. The french fries were a bit bland, but they were crispy and we could easily add our own salt and seasoning from the shakers on the tables.

Prestogrillen’s burgers don’t really reach to the levels we expect of a modern burger joint today, but this nice and popular grill kiosk is still worth a visit. We’d recommend one of their Swedish classics instead though, like a tunnbrödsrulle.

🍔 Review № 1381

Black Bear Burger is one of the veterans of the modern burger wave in England, and we have tried their burgers several times since our first review in 2017. Over the years, Black Bear Burger has received more and more attention and hype, both domestically and internationally, and today they are one of the most well-known burger restaurants in all of England. They have locations at nearly 10 places around London, and we visited their restaurant inside the Market Halls Victoria food hall and ordered their Double Miso Bacon Burger – the same burger that won them the National Burger of the Year 2025 award. The burger contained double patties, double cheese, smoked bacon and their miso butter mayo, and it cost 15.8 GBP (21 USD).

The burger looked exactly as we remembered it, with pre-formed patties and a pale bun covered in a generous layer of sesame seeds. The bun was soft and fluffy, but just like on our previous visits, we felt that the crust-like amount of sesame seeds took over both in terms of flavour and texture. The meat was of high quality as always and had a nice and potent dry-aged character that they are known for. The meat could have been juicier though, as it felt a bit too compact this time. The bacon was super tasty and crispy, just the way we like it, and the onion also contributed a nice texture. Their miso butter mayo was very flavourful with its buttery, salty, and umami-rich taste, but together with the bacon and the beef, the overall flavour profile was a bit too salty. We would have liked to see some kind of freshness to break up the saltiness for a more complete experience.

We are very happy that a veteran like Black Bear Burger continues to deliver high-quality burgers year after year, and they are still a safe bet when you are craving a really good burger in London.
