In English

Smash Haket opened in the spring of 2023 in Stockholm, specifically in Hornstull on Södermalm. The restaurant is bright and nicely decorated in a modern style with neon details, and they also have a relatively large outdoor seating area. The menu included five beef burgers plus a handful of vegetarian burgers and other dishes – including burger tacos. We ordered a double Cheese Smash with two 100-gram beef patties, cheddar, pickled red onions, lettuce, pickles and a burger sauce. Single burgers cost 95 SEK (8.5 USD), and our double cost 130 SEK (11.5 USD). We also bought fries for 35 SEK (3 USD) and a chilli mayonnaise dip for 30 SEK (2.5 USD).

Our burger looked classic and neat, although we would have liked to see a little more cheese on the patties. The bun was firm on the outside and fluffy on the inside, and had been toasted. The meat had a generous crust, but strangely didn’t offer any noticeable crispness. It was well seasoned with a pleasant amount of salt, but the texture was somewhat chewy. The flavours were very classic, but a bit too sweet and would have liked some more acidity to balance it out. Our fries were of the standard variety, but well-cooked and went well with the chilli mayonnaise. The latter offered both heat and some much-needed acidity.

Everything was quite well done and flavourful, but it also felt generic and quite forgettable. Smash Haket serve good burgers in a city that already offers world-class hamburgers. If you’re already in Hornstull, they’re worth a visit, but we were expecting something a little more sophisticated based on their attitude.

🍔 Review № 1397

🇺🇸 @localtide ★★★★☆

Local Tide is a hyped fish restaurant in central Seattle. And while most of the menu focuses on seafood, their burger has also become a bit of a talking point. They don’t take reservations, and when we arrived there were around 20 people queuing outside the small restaurant, with an hour-long wait. Luckily, there was space next door at Aslan Brewing, which served their burger and a handful of other dishes from Local Tide. We ordered their Smash Burger with beef, cheese, caramelised onions and mayo in a brioche bun for 10 USD, as well as a portion of Salt and Pepper Fries for 8 USD. We also tried their Salmon Sando for 16 USD.

After waiting around an hour for our food, our burger arrived neatly presented on a small plate. The bun looked a little flat but was lighter and fluffier than we’d expected. The beef was incredibly juicy and well salted, while the cheese was both creamy and flavourful. The caramelised onions were packed with umami and really enhanced the flavour of the beef. Both the bun and beef had a decent crust, although both could’ve been cooked a little more. Our main critique was that the burger would’ve been even better with a few more crispy components, and perhaps a bit bigger. The fries were like potato wedges and were incredibly well cooked. The generous portion was crispy and well seasoned, and their homemade ketchup was really tasty. The 16 USD salmon burger also impressed us with its fresh salmon fillet, great textures and fresh flavours.

It’s great to see a seafood restaurant serving burgers as good as the ones at Local Tide. The other seafood dishes are of course also worth trying, but make sure to arrive early and be prepared to wait a while for your food.
