In English

Redheaded Stranger is a famous taco place in the middle of a residential area in East Nashville. The restaurant is incredibly cosy, and when we arrived late on a weekday evening it was packed with customers, but we still managed to order the only burger on the menu. The Green Chile Cheeseburger contained two beef patties, American cheese, bacon, chopped hatch chiles and ranch dressing, and cost 12 USD. Of course, we also ordered some different tacos for 4 USD each, as they were impossible to resist.

The burger arrived wrapped in foil, a move that has the potential to completely change the character of the burger as all of the heat is encapsulated. After unfolding it, we struggled a bit to find a good photo angle, and in the end we decided to just dig in. The beef was excellently cooked and very tender. The classic potato bun had been steamed in the foil and was therefore slightly moist and soft. But we got a lot of interesting texture thanks to the thick and flavourful bacon, and we appreciated that there was just the right amount on top of both patties. The green chilli added a lot of flavour without being overpowering, and together with the creamy ranch dressing, the pleasant heat was evenly spread out all over our mouths.

Redheaded Stranger serve up a really interesting burger that combines heat with classic flavours. If they had used a more durable bun or skipped the foil, this could have been a real winner, but we still appreciate the craftsmanship. And we also want to give a shout out to their incredible tacos and especially their decadent Pork Green Chile Crunchwrap for 10 USD, which was a real home run.

🍔 Review № 1381

Black Bear Burger is one of the veterans of the modern burger wave in England, and we have tried their burgers several times since our first review in 2017. Over the years, Black Bear Burger has received more and more attention and hype, both domestically and internationally, and today they are one of the most well-known burger restaurants in all of England. They have locations at nearly 10 places around London, and we visited their restaurant inside the Market Halls Victoria food hall and ordered their Double Miso Bacon Burger – the same burger that won them the National Burger of the Year 2025 award. The burger contained double patties, double cheese, smoked bacon and their miso butter mayo, and it cost 15.8 GBP (21 USD).

The burger looked exactly as we remembered it, with pre-formed patties and a pale bun covered in a generous layer of sesame seeds. The bun was soft and fluffy, but just like on our previous visits, we felt that the crust-like amount of sesame seeds took over both in terms of flavour and texture. The meat was of high quality as always and had a nice and potent dry-aged character that they are known for. The meat could have been juicier though, as it felt a bit too compact this time. The bacon was super tasty and crispy, just the way we like it, and the onion also contributed a nice texture. Their miso butter mayo was very flavourful with its buttery, salty, and umami-rich taste, but together with the bacon and the beef, the overall flavour profile was a bit too salty. We would have liked to see some kind of freshness to break up the saltiness for a more complete experience.

We are very happy that a veteran like Black Bear Burger continues to deliver high-quality burgers year after year, and they are still a safe bet when you are craving a really good burger in London.
