The My Special var i sin tur roligare.

MY Smashburger & Kebab opened in Ängbyplan in Stockholm early in 2024, and the friendly owner has a background in the burger chain 08 Burgers & Kebab. The new restaurant offers both smash burgers and döner, and we ordered two burgers from their extensive menu; a double Cheeseburger with cheddar, lettuce, red onions, pickles, burger sauce, ketchup and mustard, and a double The My Special with cheddar, chilli cheese, pickled red onions, red chili, tomato, pickles and a truffle béarnaise. During lunch, a single burger with fries, a soft drink and a dip cost 119 SEK (11 USD), plus 20 SEK (2 USD) for an additional 100-gram beef patty.

Our burgers arrived quickly, and were filled with toppings. The bun had been toasted in a sandwich grill and had distinct stripes, making it sturdy, if somewhat chewy. The My Special was very saucy, and the chilli cheese between the meat and the crown made it very tall. But the beef was really well smashed with plenty of black pepper. We were expecting a bit more of a taste explosion, but the actual meat flavour was quite restrained with a rather mild beefiness. Unfortunately, they used ordinary mustard instead of American yellow mustard in our Cheeseburger, which felt like a fundamental and very unnecessary mistake. The sauce and vegetables on the cheeseburger didn’t add much to the flavour either. The My Special was more enjoyable. Truffle béarnaise may not be our favourite burger ingredient, but despite being slightly overpowering, the end result was a quite hot and tasty hamburger. And it was also very filling. The fries were very tasty and crispy, and the chilli mayo dip was pretty spicy and packed with flavour.

MY Smashburger & Kebab serve filling and affordable burgers that are mainly held back by their grill kiosk mentality. We hope that they continue to develop their menu with more of a craft burger approach to truly elevate the ingredients, because we’ll gladly return to Ängbyplan in the future.

Burger Devil is located in Bäckby on the outskirts of Västerås, and when we first visited them in 2023 after several recommendations, we were pleasantly surprised by the high quality. During our return visit, we noticed that the restaurant had a thoughtfully designed interior, with almost every little detail featuring their branding. This time, we ordered a Cheese with two 120-gram beef patties, cheddar, red onions, pickles, yellow mustard, ketchup and mayo, as well as a Habanero Cheese with the same amount of beef, cheddar, habanero cheese, white onions, fresh chilli and béarnaise sauce. Both double burgers cost 189 SEK (19 USD) each as meals, including fries and a soft drink.

The burgers were nicely presented in paper sleeves and well assembled, with a good patty to bun ratio – even though our Habanero Cheese was a bit overloaded with toppings. The buns held everything together well, with a soft exterior and a nicely toasted interior. The beef was heavily smashed with a nice crust and generous seasoning that gave it a rich and robust flavour. However, we would have liked more heat from the Habanero Cheese, especially considering its name. And while we appreciated the idea of adding béarnaise sauce, the flavours became somewhat monotonous towards the end, and we would have liked something fresh to break things up. The fried habanero and cheese balls added a really nice contrast in texture, though, and overall it was a very enjoyable burger. The cheeseburger was also good at its core, but the flavours were slightly too sweet. We would have really appreciated some tangy dill pickles here to create a better balance. The fries were well-fried and nicely salted, but the dips we ordered could have had a bit more flavour.

Burger Devil has a well-developed concept, and they continue to serve filling and well-made burgers at very reasonable prices. Despite a few minor flaws, that still goes a long way.

🍔 Burgerdudes Summer BBQ Burger
4 portioner / 30 min

Du behöver:
800 g grovmald högrevsfärs, 20–30 % fetthalt
4 hamburgerbröd, gärna briochebröd
8 skivor hamburgerost
Sweet Baby Ray’s Original Barbecue Sauce
4 salladsblad
4 tomatskivor
1 rödlök
1 dl ättiksprit, 12 %
2 dl strösocker
3 dl vatten Smör
Salt och grovmald svartpeppar

Gör så här:

We first visited N.O.A.H’s Burgare in Södertälje in 2024, and they’ve been high on our ranking of Sweden’s Best Burgers ever since. Their small white food truck has now been replaced by a much larger container, and the menu featured around ten burgers. We ordered our favourite, the Double Bacon Burger, with two 110-gram beef patties, cheddar, bacon, tomato, burger sauce and BBQ sauce for 138 SEK (14 USD). We also tried their SSK Meal, featuring a Bacon Jam Burger with a 135-gram beef patty, cheddar, bacon jam, pickles and Mac sauce. It cost 185 SEK (19 USD), including fries, a dip and a drink.

The burgers arrived quickly and looked just as inviting as we remembered. The Bacon Burger delivered crispy bacon and deep umami flavours, while the diced tomato worked surprisingly well with the other ingredients, adding both juiciness and a distinct texture. The Bacon Jam Burger had a pronounced sweetness and smokiness that we really enjoyed. The thicker beef patty had a crispy crust and a very juicy centre, and together with the generous amount of bacon jam, the proportions between the beef, toppings and bun were really good. However, the Mac sauce faded into the background and didn’t quite get a chance to shine. Both burgers were generously seasoned with salt and coarsely ground black pepper, and we particularly appreciated how they had adjusted the thickness of the patties to suit the toppings. The flavourful bacon jam worked perfectly with a thicker patty, while the classic Bacon Burger had better proportions with two thinner patties, each with an amazing crust. The fries were well-cooked and almost impossible to stop eating, and the included Mac dip paired really well with them.

N.O.A.H’s Burgare just keeps getting better with every visit, and they continue to impress from their small car park on the outskirts of Södertälje. If you love burgers, they’re definitely worth a detour.

🇺🇸 @familyfriend20671 ★★★★☆

Familyfriend is located in a residential neighbourhood in South Seattle and serves American comfort food and Guamanian fusion cuisine. They’ve been named the home of both Seattle’s best smashburger and corn soup, and the restaurant itself has a cosy interior with a large and airy courtyard. The menu consisted of small plates, medium plates and mains, and we ordered the only burger on the menu. The Da Kids Kewpie Burger came with beef, cheese, onions, pickles and miso and cost 20 USD, including a portion of Truffle Shoestring Fries. We also added an extra beef patty for another 5 USD.

The burger was served on a small plate and looked really cute. The beef was juicy with a crispy crust, but we would’ve appreciated more salt to make the flavours pop. The bun was nice and surprisingly airy, but should’ve been toasted harder on the inside. Ratio-wise, it worked really well with double beef, and we think a single would’ve been too bun-heavy. The diced onions were exceptionally crisp and flavourful without taking over, but they’d also diced the pickles, which made them feel more like relish. So even though the flavour was there, we missed their natural crunch, and the burger felt a little too soft overall. The flavours were simple but tasty, and we liked that they dared to keep the burger this simple. Their truffle fries were thinly cut and fried until crisp. Luckily, they’d only been lightly tossed in a fresh truffle oil, which added umami without taking over. We genuinely couldn’t stop eating them.

Familyfriend is a cosy little neighbourhood restaurant that’s well worth a visit. Come for the burger, but make sure to order several of the medium plates to share as well. We tried everything from tacos and empanadas to the burger and their corn soup – and the latter really did live up to its award.
